Prosodic Words

چکیده
From a phonological point of view, morphological words, i.e. syntactic atoms, do not necessarily behave as a unit. For instance, derivational affixes and compound members can be treated independently by phonological word-level rules. The prosodic word has been defined in order to account for the non-isomorphy between morphology and phonology. Prosodic words are typically characterized as being the domain of word stress, phonotactics and segmental word-level rules. This thesis deals with various aspects concerning the definition of the prosodic word in the realm of derivation, compounding, and cliticization. In addition, it addresses several morphological issues; given the limitations on the length of the present article though, I will leave these aside. The prosodic word is but one element in a series of hierarchically ordered phonological constituents known as the prosodic hierarchy (Selkirk 1981, 1986; Nespor & Vogel 1986). The Strict Layer Hypothesis (SLH) determines the geometry of this constituent structure, as follows:

Prosodic Words Prediction from Lexicon Words with CRF and TBL Joint Method
Predicting prosodic words boundaries will directly influence the naturalness of synthetic speech, because prosodic word is at the lowest level of prosody hierarchy. In this paper, a Chinese prosodic phrasing method based on CRF and TBL model is proposed. First a CRF model is trained to predict the prosodic words boundaries from lexicon words. After that we apply a TBL based error driven learnin...
متن کاملAn F0 Contour Model in Chinese Based on Templates of Prosodic Words
The problem of F0 contour generation in Chinese are addressed in this paper. An F0 contour model based on templates of prosodic words is proposed. Taking templates of prosodic word F0 contour as the basic units, the basic structure of the model is established with references to the “small ripples on top of big waves theory” and “Fujisaki model”. A three-layer prosodic hierarchy which consists o...
متن کاملProsodic Similarity Effects in Short‐Term Memory in Developmental Dyslexia
Children with developmental dyslexia are characterized by phonological difficulties across languages. Classically, this 'phonological deficit' in dyslexia has been investigated with tasks using single-syllable words. Recently, however, several studies have demonstrated difficulties in prosodic awareness in dyslexia. Potential prosodic effects in short-term memory have not yet been investigated....
متن کاملProsodic word-based error correction in speech recognition using prosodic word expansion and contextual information
In this study, considering the effect of phrase grouping in spontaneous speech, prosodic words, instead of lexical words, are adopted as the units for error correction of speech recognition results. The prosodic words and the corresponding mis-recognized word fragments are obtained from a speech database to construct a mis-recognized word fragment table for the extracted prosodic words. For eac...
متن کاملProsodic Word Prediction Using a Maximum Entropy Approach
As the basic prosodic unit, the prosodic word influences the naturalness and the intelligibility greatly. Although the research shows that the lexicon word are greatly different from the prosodic word, the lexicon word still provides the important cues for the prosodic word forming. The rhythm constraint is another important factor for the prosodic word prediction. Some lexicon word length patt...
متن کاملPitch Patterns of Prosodic Words in Suzhou Chinese
The pitch patterns of prosodic words in Suzhou Chinese are investigated in connected speech. The results show that the non initial syllables in prosodic words have constant pitch targets. However the pitch targets are mid level of tonal range instead of low level as suggested in previous studies.
